These aren’t settlers and they weren’t running a Canadian Indian school burying children out back either. Kids trying to share their beliefs (misguided as they may be) aren’t colonizers and if they aren’t welcome, execution is not the right answer you troglodyte.
It’s not rocket science to expect a society to condemn extrajudicial violence. Your opinion is bad and you should feel bad about it.

51·1 month agoMan is it refreshing to hear a Taiwanese perspective in the mix. Every post, every comment is a bunch of armchair “experts” talking about an issue they clearly haven’t the slightest personal experience or context for. Not to come off as a jerk but it sure would be nice to hear what the actual people involved think instead of rank speculation. Reminds me of all the infectious disease experts during covid and military strategists in Feb 2022.
Initial capability of 90x truckloads of aid per day, scaling up to planned 150x loads capacity. 500x needed a day to meet the requirement and vastly more inefficient than simply driving it in. JLOTS is not a replacement or even a fraction of the need for simply opening the Rafah gate—where aid trucks are already staged to drive aid through without needing to add dock operations to the equation.

3·2 months agoI’d just love to see something non-formulaic this year. With the writer’s strikes, and state of the film industry, I’ll take anything at this point.
(Don’t interpret this as criticism of the writer’s guild. The people who make the art should absolutely be able to support themselves while executive split blockbuster profits)
First off, we’re free speech absolutists and censoring Hunter Biden’s dickpics was the crime of the century.
Secondly, anyone who disagrees with our unfathomably narrow worldview should be met with the full might of the state!

1·3 months agoThank you for the reply! I posted and then had an unexpected travel commitment come up that pulled me away from Lemmy, but thrilled to have someone with direct involvement jump in.
I couldn’t agree more, and it seems to me that OSE and Lemmy make a perfect match. Can’t wait to check out the wiki and thank you again for the reply! Hope you guys get flooded with support and keep carrying the project forward. What a great mission statement and purpose.
2·3 months agoWith all due respect, this is not reflective of the protestant revival movement in the US in the 1800s. The second awakening was absolutely a bunch of rival interpretations of the word claiming they were right b/c (insert reason here).
I probably should have been more specific in my original reply but when we’re taking about US “Catholics aren’t Christians” that’s 100 percent the origin of the trope. I can’t speak to the Irish version but I’d challenge anyone about it in the US. That’s why we needed an Ecumenism movement in the first place after all.

Basically, if you’ve read about Dr. Suess’ Starbellied Sneeches, you get the idea. Human brains are exceptional pattern recognition machines, and when a society is so homogenously Christian then those small differences become the cleavages along which identities form. That leads to things like Catholic / Christian divisions and the formation of the best joke in The Guardian history:
