    That particular thing is not a big deal, at all. If you’re a man, you must register for Selective Service at 18. Been that way since I did it 35-years ago, had to go figure out how to do it manually. Not like you could formerly opt out and just not get drafted. “Well, damn. He’s not on the list, guess we can’t draft him! Clever bastard.”

    This change merely automates the process. One less thing for a young man to worry about or get in trouble for.

      Agree to disagree. This really shows me that most of the people who protested Vietnam are dead. Not signing up for the draft can be an act of protest. The tiny choice we used to have is now gone.

          I never stated that it was the only option. The fact that it was taken away is significant, especially because it was a symbolic act of protest rather than an effective act. Aka it didn’t even do anything and they still don’t like that. Why tf do we even have a draft? If we really need one, we can pass one through the government at that time. It should be retired. It’s weird.
