  • This is true, but there’s far more to it than that. I’m going to preface my story by saying at one time in my past I was technically a part of the massive, glaring problem that gave rise to locking, unlocking phones.

Many years ago! The Samsung Galaxy S3 came out & it was awesome. I think the carrier & other places were trying to sell it for $300 with a fucking 2-yr contract, or $700 street, etc. Now it’s important to note that this was 2012, when the USD was worth at least half a damn & money was harder to get. So $700 outright is $953.78 today, no small fee. And a 2-yr contract?? Get fucked, my guy.

So I hop on Craigslist & I see this guy selling a brand new SGS3 for $300. Too good to be true! Or is it? I asked all kinds of questions, basically confirmed it was legit. Then I’m about to go meet him & he asks me, what color do you want? And I was like wtf?? How do I get choice? I think I got blue, idk? He asked if I wanted more phones, again I was flabbergasted, and I said sure my dad could use one… He’ll want white… He said he’d explain everything when we met, just bring $300 cash for each phone. And he did explain.

Turns out the guy was a bum. He was jobless, soon to be homeless, wanted fast cash & didn’t care how he got it. These phones were easy to obtain, and he worked out a system where he could basically get infinite plans & infinite phones under his name. Once the phone passed hands…it became mine. And there was nothing the carrier could do about it.

He bought all his phones via a credit card, and he just racked up a huge-ass balance that he had zero intention of paying off. He’s selling these brand new “under contract” phones for cold, hard cash. Thousands of dollars. Eventually everybody would get wise, his CC debt would default, he’d absolutely RUIN his credit. But he didn’t care & he was planning to disappear.

Unethical behavior. If everyone acted the way he did, things wouldn’t work. But at the time it really helped me, and my dad, and a few of my friends immensely. This is also back when smartphone upgrades were huge & actually meant something. We justified it as such: if we didn’t buy the phones, he’d just sell them to somebody else. So why shouldn’t we benefit?

Do you think this bum was the only guy that figured that out, that worked the system in such a manner? Nah. Who knows how much money the cell carriers & CC companies were hemorrhaging…and on bums, no less. ¯\(°_o)/¯ Lo & behold, a year or two later they rolled out cell phone/carrier locking. Your very expensive phone was locked down…until it was paid off in full. I’m sure it was in part because of the smartphone hustlers.

Now I am well aware this is Lemmy, the land of socialists, communists who want handjobs & $30 cutting edge smartphones for everybody. T-Mobile, AT&T, & CC companies be damned. But any costs or thievery done to these companies will eventually be passed on to the honest consumers to foot the bill. So…no. Unlocking phones for people who haven’t paid off their contracts in full would not be good for the consumer. Because of thieves & bums.

  • That is truly hilarious. Idk if I’d stoop to that, maybe I would, because fuck 'em. But I’d be a relatively “active” bot, if that makes sense. Just leave it run on a secondary screen, check it often. Maybe while surfing the web, or reading a book. I’d be there! But all this clicking & clacking, running around, tedious AF. Screw that, man. I’m not your monkey. I felt it was just disrespectful of our time, and I guess I wasn’t alone in thinking that.

Botting is dangerous, though, especially when you’ve got a powerful character worth a damn. I had a really good character, I wouldn’t ever want him getting banned. I put in too many good hours to get a ban.

  • Great questions, and you need to familiarize yourself with the correct answers. Generally memorize the protocols. I’m going to regurgitate what I have internalized & point you to online resources to educate yourself further.

Preparations made well in advance really give an advantage to survival.

As soon as a nuke is dropped, go the fuck home. Turn on your faucets & fill all sinks & bathtubs, as this may be the last of your easy, clean, potable water you’ll get from the grid for who knows how long.

One of the biggest & best things you can do is shelter in place, I think for a week. Radioactive fallout & the heavy alpha particles will be everywhere, and blow everywhere. Cover all windows & doors with Visqueen sheeting & duct tape, control & eliminate the travel of random-ass particulates. After 1 week, the radioactive potency of the dust particles should be reduced by 85-90%. That’s huge. So shut your windows & doors, seal everything up, and sit your ass down. It could save your life.

Shelter in place requires food, water, preps. I think it’s overkill, but overkill is also kind of what you need/want, 1 gallon of water per person per day. When Russia started getting on their shit, people were buying up iodine tabs. This harmless substance negates the harmful effects of potential radioactive exposure via your food & drink. The trick is you have to take this stuff a set amount of time…before…exposure to radioactive particles. It protects your thyroid gland, IIRC. Have water, have food, maybe have a container or two of those fancy tablets.

Especially in the earlier days, you help others by being able to help yourself. If there are assistance efforts, you can turn them down & the help can go to others in more dire need.

We can, and do, talk about prepping things for years on end. I would recommend you tune in to Canadian Prepper (hey,I watched some of the video after & I didn’t do too badly!)

Yes, Canadian Prepper touches on this. In my words: information is good. But the authorities, and other people, may lie or not tell the entire truth. They tell you what they want you to know. Good advice in general.

  • There is one case I know of personally, I don’t think it technically falls under the description of rape but I consider it rape. Husband & wife, wife wanted kid. Husband did not. Their birth control was pill-based oral contraceptive. Wife very purposefully moved off that birth control without telling the husband, husband was just raw-dogging her because “she was on the pill”…lo & behold…she gets pregnant.

She’s not very smart, and she has told a number of people about this deception & laughs about it. HAHAHA, oh, so funny, yeah that’s rape. You took advantage of your husband & used his reproductive abilities against his explicit wishes. You raped your husband. Had yourself a little rape-baby. Hilarious stuff (stupid broad).

Again, I don’t think that’s currently covered under rape. But goddamn I think it should be (although it’s harder to prove without confession/admission).

  • I am on the right, and yes, he’s right-grifty AF. Always has been. I’m sure my opinions on KR wouldn’t be received well on Lemmy (not that I care too much), but we’re probably in agreement here: …why is this little boy relevant? 🤨 Like why should he be a ‘thing’, years later? He shot some people, that’s it. So what’s the formula here? Go to rally filled with violent criminals while open carrying, shoot people, ???, profit? Not a KR fan by any means.

I was watching some YouTubers & KR was there for some reason, and they were waiting in anticipation “to see which college he’d choose!! 😍” they had 2 hats & he was going to grab one, put one on & I’m just like GUYS…I. Do. Not. Care. I just don’t care. ¯\(°_o)/¯ It was SO strange watching him turn into a celebrity.
