  • Not only that but reddit isn’t allowing you to make new accounts as of today, without having a Gmail account first.

What? So you can’t use any other email provider but Google to sign up for a Reddit account?

EDIT: I actually don’t think this is correct. I just went to the sign up page and it does have buttons to create an account using Google or Apple OAuth (I assume) but there is a field under those two buttons for just any email. Put in my Outlook.com email and it accepted it and went to the next page where I could create my user name and password.

You need good software to make the most out of good hardware, but I think our definition of good is different. For software, as long as the software doesn’t get in the way of launching the app you want, most normies will consider that good. It doesn’t matter that Android is bloated and inefficient if the user can tap the Instagram or Facebook icon and have that open up without user perceptible delay.

The average person is remarkably able to put up with shit. Look at the experience on smart TVs for example. The vast majority of people are fine with the absolutely shitty experience as long as they can open up Netflix.

Use what you like. Just like Windows, macOS and Linux for the vast majority of people, all these OSes are, are platforms to display apps and webpages. They all have sanded off most of the rough edges meaning that unless you have specific niche needs/wants, you’ll just use what is familar and be happy.

Life is too short to have deep feelings about an OS.

  • It has definitely become more noticeable on Reddit that huge numbers of either compromised or sold accounts are being used by bots to sell shit. They are in basically every thread now, getting upvoted to appear more legit until someone calls them out and they delete their content.

Reddit is definitely on the way down. And a decent amount along the way. But unfortunately, it still is the best option for a modern day message board. I want to use Lemmy more, but there just isn’t enough content being posted by enough people.

  • What it was the end of was talentless painters who were just copying what they saw. Painting stopped being for service and started being for art. That is where software development is going.

I think a better way of saying this are people who were just doing it for a job, not because of a lot of talent or passion for painting.

But doing something just because it is a job is what a lot of people have to do to survive. Not everyone can have a profession that they love and have a passion for.

That’s where the problem comes in when it comes to these generative AI.
