I don’t have enough computers yet to have dedicated ones is the problem, and I don’t work in an industry that demands one. But I do understand the value of Apple essentially handling all the difficult stuff for me, I don’t have infinite time to manage devices.
I might try to pick up a cheap older one to try out the ecosystem like you mentioned as Ive barely used one before.

I’m not scapegoating Apple at all, this is the first time you mentioned the other companies. I’m sorry but I don’t agree that because perfect doesnt exist, that excuses bad behavior.

I was talking about possible alternatives, and also trying to understand the perspective of people who do use the devices for good reason. You are for some reason defending your honor to a complete stranger on the internet who you barely know.
If it makes you feel better, I also do things that cause harm. A major value of mine is learning from past behavior and making better decisions, so thats why I’m even having this discussion.

Well I suppose I’ll have to see how they resolve this problem then. It does seem like theres a solid use case for the devices, I think I just don’t fit any of them.
Can you think of any company that makes something comparable to apples macbooks or imacs? Maybe shooting for close enough would work for me, as long as I can still put whatever OS on it I want and swap out some parts every once in a while.

Yeah I think they would be alright personal use offroad vehicles. Although they didnt build them for that, they could have.
I’m not saying to reward bad behavior, but to root for and assist with change. People are very good at adapting if we allow room for it. Thats just my perspective though, I know many have lost trust with Ubisfot. I just think they have an opportunity to change and earn it back.

I disagree, people don’t live in isolation, everything you do has some effect elsewhere. Thats far more true when you have kids, as you brought up, because they will copy your ideas and methods.
You can definitely say it has no other affect on you personally than your bank balance, and thats fine. I am concerned about external affects though because I value reducing harm no matter how much unrelated good I do.

You implied if one wants to work in your industry they need a macbook. I accept your premise that you might be turned away from good opportunities for not having one, although that will vary from person to person of course.
What I am saying is that what constitutes a good job also varies. One that pays marginally less but allows you to maintain your values, might be worth more to someone than a job that pays more but doesnt fit their values.
What you are teaching your kids is a narrow perspective, and it might work out fine but I find that limiting so I choose to teach my kids that values come first, even if they evolve over time.
Also, you are deflecting quite a bit, charity work has nothing to do with other actions, surely you know that. I also never called you wealthy, I referenced the pursuit of wealth, which is very common in American culture.

What do you think the reaction would be to going private? I know some well regarded studios are private, so I’m not sure what would be the issue there?
I do have kids, that’s why I care about where the money I’m paid comes from, and what my work contributes to my community and those outside of it as well.
I don’t think there is value here to teaching my kids that they should only do or value what those who make the most money do or value.
Moderation of everything is important, including the pursuit of wealth.

I do think you might be right that building your own is more expensive now, not sure when that changed.

To return to the post, I would say it comes across wrong when you ignore the entire content of the persons post, and only comment about the he or she part. I understand that part is important to you, but you literally ignored the point they were making.
I would suggest to respond to the point, and then make the suggestion you did if that was important to you.
I think you are essentially saying using Apple on average will make you more money, but I would say that money isnt always the most important thing.
Plenty of people choose to make less money than they know they could with other means, for a variety of reasons.
The question is whether there is room at all for that group of people in your industry in the US?
Give me a model to compare to? Are all apple models the same? Or do you mean just pick any of them?
Legalizing heroin isnt going to stop it coming in the borders it will just make it easier to sell. There are still gray markets in areas with legalized drugs now.
