The cruelty is the point. The evidence is clear.
I actually disagree that the cruelty is intentional. I think conservatives have proven pretty clearly at this point that they devote a considerable amount of mental effort to believing their views are correct, no matter what the data show. I think they genuinely think transsexuality is a farce, just like they believe homosexuality is a mental illness, and that they’re protecting children from bad influences by preventing them from transitioning. The problem is willful ignorance and lack of appreciation for critical thinking.
There’s a difference between protest and harassment. I strongly believe the right to express all opinions–even stupid, bigoted ones–should be protected, but that doesn’t mean you get to harass other people and try to intimidate them into submission.
Wow, communism is fucking awesome. /s
Your BIL likely has an intellectual impairment to get those benefits. Learning disabilities are not typically severe enough to disable a person from working. An intellectual impairment is a much broader term that essentially indicates the person’s IQ is significantly lower than average, and this very often is disabling enough to prevent a person from working.
Is that supposed to make me want it less?
Don’t use California as a metric for American homelessness. California has made itself a veritable Mecca for homeless people by passing laws that allow them to set up camp virtually anywhere. Those laws, combined with its naturally temperate climate have resulted in 30% of America’s homeless population living in California. No other state in the U.S. has such a hard-on for homeless people and we have much more sensible laws that reflect that.
It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Lemmy is rife with these trolls. And I’m not just talking about the tankies.
I will never understand people who advocate for communism as opposed to democratic socialism. Every major country that has ever gone down the communist road has ended up a dictatorship. That’s not a bug of communism, it’s a feature. I get the criticism of capitalism, I really do, but we can enact socialist laws that rein in the excesses and extremes of capitalism without sacrificing our democracies for one-party governments.
“From the river to the sea” is a phrase used by Hamas and other anti-Israel groups in the region to talk about wiping Israel out. I don’t think Tlaib was actually calling for the destruction of Israel, but her choice of phrase was absolutely moronic, and I don’t believe she ever apologized for it. That’s what I meant about her comments not being as bad as these, but still bad.
Lemmings are rightly furious about these comments, but I don’t recall you all being upset about Tlaib’s tone-deaf implication that Israel should be wiped from the map.
I’m not pretending Tlaib’s comments are as bad as these, because they’re not, but I am absolutely for censuring Tlaib over them. They were totally out of line, no matter what she meant.
Didn’t they also establish that Sargent is a hyper-religious Christian and that the majority of American flat-earthers are? If this is a religious belief for them then there’s absolutely no hope that they’ll change their views.
Because it’s recently escalated from a simmering series of minor conflicts to full-blown war. Hamas launched a coordinated series of strikes against Israel on Oct. 7th, massacring lots of people, and Israel has responded by bombing Gaza indiscriminately, killing thousands of civilians in their attempts to slay Hamas leaders.
This is “new,” in other words. It’s receiving a lot of attention because it’s a big change from the state of things prior to 10/7/23.
I’ve been on here since the Reddit API nonsense and it was always like this. Lemmy is a haven for the Far Left, and the Far Left is just as blind to nuance and their own hypocrisy as the Far Right is. It’s just something you have to put up with here, and that will be the case until Lemmy attracts a wider audience.
10 years for ending someone else’s life? I’m glad we have longer sentences for that here in the U.S. Don’t get me wrong–I’m all for prison reform and introducing rehabilitative elements to reduce recidivism, but Europeans seem to have more concern for criminals than they do for the victims of crime.
I don’t know, I don’t listen to Tucker Carlson. Maybe you should go to his house and start screaming “down with the bourgeoisies!” until you start realizing you’re not relevant.
I mean, it’s pretty clear to me from reading the negative comments in the posts commemorating her death that they took issue with the fact that she wasn’t 100% progressive in all respects, that she believed in working with conservative politicians to get things done via compromise, and that she didn’t think corporate suits and cops were all evil. In other words, she was a moderate Democrat.
So, from what I can tell, that’s the why, but the who really does matter, because you were specifically asking about the comments you’re seeing here on Lemmy, and Lemmy is disproportionately representative of Far Left Anarcho-Communists (i.e. whack jobs with a lot of passion, but little intelligence). You wouldn’t see these kinds of criticisms of Feinstein in a more balanced political forum as they’d get drowned out by the sensible people.
Edit: Here’s a good article detailing her complicated relationship with the gay community, which also sheds some light on why she wasn’t the perfect liberal.
She’s not. She’s hated by the Far Left, because she wasn’t far left enough. Don’t rely on Lemmy to give you a balanced, accurate picture of the political landscape.
Wow, a bigoted prick and an internet stalker. Stop following me around, asshat. Maybe get off the internet for a bit? Get a life.
Start seeing a therapist. Get help from a professional and avoid taking the advice of strangers on the internet.
This isn’t a gun control issue.
