I saw a longer video (maybe not the full one) that showed him turning around and engaging with them a couple of times, and someone threw what looked like juice at him - didn’t seem to be the bottle, just the liquid, and then he pushed past several people to punch that specific woman. I don’t think he can claim self-defense even if they had pushed him down before, because he walked pretty far to get to her without anyone attacking him or even stopping him.

So the short answer is that it’s complicated. Long answer is (with the caveat that I’m not an attorney and we have one that guides our licensing board) that those are crimes of moral turpitude, which are considered when evaluating a new application or renewal. Per state law, the existence of a conviction isn’t enough on its own to deny the license - the board has to consider things like length of time since the crime and the applicant’s conduct since then. I genuinely have no idea what would happen if someone was in jail. I mean, I’m sure their license would be denied, I’m just not sure if they’d even be allowed to renew or maintain ownership in the first place. It’s never come up. More than likely, they’d sell it or transfer ownership before it ever came to me.

I don’t know NJ liquor laws, but if they’re similar, I can see them saying sorry, the conviction was too recent and you’ve shown zero remorse, no license for you. That said, I have no idea if Trump, individually is considered an owner, or if the license is under a subsidiary company where everyone knows it’s ultimately his, but he’s not involved in any of the day to day, so the establishment can remain licensed. Frankly, it’s not going to hurt him as much as the people who will lose their jobs if the license goes, but I’ll be interested to see what happens.

In this instance? Probably. We just had a hearing for a guy charged with bigamy and DV, and he got to renew his license. We have another guy who owns a bar (thank god not in my city) that’s known for being a dangerous shithole, and he keeps getting licensed somehow. Most liquor laws make it pretty hard to essentially take away someone’s livelihood, regardless of what you or I think about it. I wish it was treated as more of a privilege than it is, but Trump is far from the only felon with a liquor license.

Anyone applying for or holding a liquor license is entitled to a hearing if they’re denied. That doesn’t change just because it’s Trump. I do liquor licensing in a different state and you really can’t just take it away without due process. He may well get to keep the licenses, because his conviction wasn’t related to liquor laws, and for us, that’s one of the only times we can revoke one. This is really not a case of him getting special treatment.

Yeah I can see that. I guess where I have an issue is that the old white guy who shot up a Planned Parenthood a few years back was taken alive (and he’s far from the only example) and it’s like, why is it that they can negotiate and talk guys like that down but don’t bother to even attempt to de-escalate with brown kids? That’s why I hauled ass to the doctor and got a bisalp scheduled asap. I ended up getting them to agree to a hysterectomy this year, which is what I really wanted, but I wasn’t willing to take a chance on that not happening. I’m no longer in the young category, but I was only 38 and potentially still fertile (and way more likely to have complications from being “geriatric”).

I know parents didn’t know how bad these places were years ago, and the people running them put on a good show, but anyone still willing to put their kid in one after they’ve been pretty thoroughly exposed should lose all of their children. This shit is sick.

I haven’t had any issue finding those amenities in hotels in Europe (at least in Berlin, Munich, Madrid, and Málaga, which is not an exhaustive study by any means). I’ve seen a few that look to be entire small apartment buildings converted into hotels, which isn’t great for the local housing market, but all the ones I’ve stayed at were clearly built for that purpose. So that’s the good news, I guess.

Did you read the rest of the thread? I already acknowledged that I was wrong about that part, but they’re saying they can’t get work because of him while still refusing to condemn him. The GoFundMe says he was “involved in a tragic shooting incident,” which is a pretty weasely way to say he killed people.

I also question that it really has anything to do with him. He’s certainly not having any issues making money, and there are a concerning number of people who consider him a hero, or at the very least aren’t bothered by what he did (see the comments on this post for a whole lot of evidence). Surely some of them are hiring.

Ok then I retract the part about driving. But I have a hard time feeling sympathy for her being unable to get a job. She’s repeatedly defended him and said she stands by him, and she allowed her 17 year old to buy a gun he couldn’t legally have and to drive without a license. Being associated with him is her doing. I have a family member who was a teenage white supremacist piece of shit (who was thankfully stopped by the FBI before he killed anyone), and you can bet nobody thinks I’m associated with him because I make it very clear where I stand. If I said he was a good person and I’ll always support him, I wouldn’t be shocked if employers said nah.

Huh. Have any of them considered a job? If the mom was capable of driving her child to another state to murder some people, I bet she could drive for uber or something. Or be a getaway driver for other criminals, idk.

I wish they’d all been more like you. Instead, all of the ones I had until my mid 20s were the kind of people who would tell us the policy was X and we absolutely could not do Y, and the second a customer bitched, suddenly Y was fine and they made us look like liars or idiots.

Many years ago, I worked in a call center. I was sitting with someone who was new helping them take calls and both of our headsets were plugged into the phone. The trainee was helping a store employee and she was just being awful to him. While she went to get something from the customer, I muted the line and said, “God, what a bitch!” except my finger was hovering over the button and I hit it just in time for her to hear me say bitch. I fully panicked and hung up on her. Nobody ever said anything to either of us and this was back when landlines would occasionally cross, so hopefully she thought that’s what happened since she hadn’t heard my voice up until then.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure that’s the origin of why I still don’t trust mute or hold to this day. I’m not talking shit until I know that call is disconnected.

Oh I’m the opposite - I’m not a very good cook because I don’t enjoy doing it. I’m pretty good with flavors because I’m not afraid of seasonings, but my knife skills are bordering on Worst Cook in America levels. The abuse I have wrought upon poor, innocent, delicious onions is a crime.

I’m the worst about this. My mom and I will try a new restaurant and I’ll be talking about “oh this needs acid, that’s the perfect amount of heat, blah blah.” Meanwhile, I’m over here “cooking” noodles with a pile of kimchi every other day because that’s all I ever have in the fridge.

I’m flying overseas in September, and I checked a few weeks ago. Thankfully, no Boeings for any of it.
