This is what my family (and a few friends) use. We have been using it for a while now because it just works. Also, the kids have never complained about using Conversations, or about using it only for us (like if you have that one family member who won’t leave SMS behind - we’re that guy, I guess), and we can make as many channels as we need for the house, the kids, with each kid individually, for our MTG cards, with our couple of friends that use it, etc…

I don’t personally do the hosting, so I can’t speak to that. That’s the hubby’s thing

The thing that gets me a lot of the time is falling up. I would trip while running or riding a bike, and lose contact with the ground. Soon I’m beyond any trees that I could grab, and just falling. Up. Until it wakes me up.

I’ve had nightmares about it since I was a kid (I don’t know when “old” starts, but I’m probably closer to that than to being a kid. Well, in age - I’m still pretty immature 😅)

I have had quite a few nightmares about not being able to find my kids during zombie apocalypses.
Same basic thing tho: the scariest part wasn’t the setting or scenario, it was not being able to save my kids from harm.

I think that - if you want to read current Marvel story arcs, but not buy every tie-in story (from characters you don’t really like or care about, for example) - digital comics are how you’ll want to go.

There are lots of ways to get free digital comics, and as the other reply said, use a search engine or wiki to find the reading order and all the tie-ins. That’s just the way Marvel does things, and I’m pretty sure DC does it the same way - that’s how the story stays cohesive, and how more sales are made. Your friend is absolutely right.

If you’re going to a local comic book store, try asking the employees - not everyone cares, or pays attention, but sometimes you’ll find a passionate employee (or owner) who can help you find the tpbs involved in the storylines.

I don’t think it’s a Sync only thing. I get that you can see them in the browser, but since I started using Lemmy last year I have noticed the occasional number of comments not matching the visible comments - not just in Sync, tho. It’s happened to me while using the pwa and with other apps.

If you want to switch clients, go ahead and try them out - there are a lot of choices these days. I think LW has a variety of frontend options, too. Maybe one of those will be a good fit?
(I dunno, I really like Sync, but I’ve also installed and used just about every Android Lemmy app, and just end up coming back to Sync each time. Don’t get me wrong - there are some that are really good, but Sync is still my top pick.)

Does it happen with defederated instances too? Say if the LW user gets a reply from a hexbear user? (I think those are defederated, at least)

That’s fair - I had just thought it must be the new normal, if it had trickled down to our city (city, but not big city).

The whole business of blaring ads at a captive audience is bs, either way!

I don’t live in a big city, by any stretch - but I guess it’s not the sticks, because we have that shit around here. And not just the busiest gas stations, by the highway. I hate it.

Love love love FLCL - great music imho, all seasons. I’ve re-watched the first season a dozen times or so, and didn’t actually know there were more seasons until much more recently.

My kids recommended Dororo, Dorohedoro, Made In Abyss, Bocchi the Rock!, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, One-Punch Man, Chainsaw Man… I have enjoyed them all. I know some of those are “new hotness” and really popular, but I’ve really enjoyed the stories, music and art in all of them.

Well, damn. Thanks for warning me about that possibility - looked like more steps that included BIOS last I checked, but as I said, I’ve never needed the process.

Edit: I should note that I have installed Windows from a USB stick recently, I’ve just never already had another OS installed and then going to Windows. Most of my experience is installing a Linux flavor for dual boot.

I use this app called MoeMemos which is for memos I guess? But the reason I mention it like this is because I’m the user who needs to have the easy access on our server :-P

I guess I don’t know - I think you’d still have to go into BIOS and switch it to boot from USB? I don’t know about the rest of it, but I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t just start installation. Unless it’s a thumb drive specifically tailored to take over someone’s system?

So yes, you could reinstall Windows, but it would still require a reboot to BIOS to allow for it. Am I missing something? What’s the big “gotcha” that I missed? I genuinely don’t know, and since I am not an expert on installation of OSes, if you could enlighten me, that could be useful for me.

I don’t feel like that’s exclusive to Lenovo, fwiw. I have an Asus laptop, and it went like that for me installing Linux from a USB stick. It was a hassle and you’re right that it seems harder than it needs to be.

I don’t have any idea why it’s like that, but it feels like it’s a better option than someone being able to walk up to my PC/laptop/whatever and change my os just by using a thumb drive without any other hoops to go through. That’s just where I stand on the issue, but you’re right that it sucks for the owner/user.

Yeah, how many random accounts were made just by this most recent incident of spam across the fediverse? If there was a new account made for each of those spam posts? Not even talking about alt or abandoned accounts. These numbers are gonna be off because of that stuff, right?

Don’t worry - most older adults people aren’t going to quiz you by bringing a fitted sheet to watch you fold. If you want to bunch it up and shove it in a cabinet, just go ahead!

A lot of times when I wash our sheets I just put them right back on the bed. Now there’s a life hack for ya!
