Exactly. As far as Linux has come in terms of ease of desktop use and hardware compatibility, there is still a barrier in knowing how to know which flavor is right for you and, almost more importantly, why that flavor is right.

The kernel is too old for newer AMD gpu drivers to work, but switching to a newer kernel isn’t too hard. I had to when I built a new computer last winter, but I have also used various *nixes for a good long time.

Knowing how to discover you need a newer kernel is a bit tough for recent convert, though.

Losing a blue to red is not a wash. If Idaho wants to the territory they can pay a fair price for it and the infrastructure on it.

Legislatively this is a bad deal. Two blue states become a red and a blue. Let Idaho properly compensate Oregon for the land, and let them also take over taking care of all those many miles of rural roads, civic services, emergency services and whatnot with 1/2 the tax base. The best dog I ever had was a pit. Sweet as pie, just wanted to cuddle and love. We chose him because he was a big meaty guy with the most adorable face you’d ever seen, and because he needed a home ASAP. We’d take him on walks and people would cat call him from passing cars, or literally stop us and ask if they could dog-sit. He spent nearly a decade with us, just loving and farting and cuddling and snoring.

He really didn’t need any help to become a great dog, except that I needed to train him that the cat was a friend and not something to chase and put our mouth on. That took all of a weekend, and that was after he’d been abandoned and abused for half a year before we got him. I know it’s not true for every individual, but many times all a dog really needs a a good home with people that love it.
